The 1-2-3-4-5 cake was given this name after the measurements of its ingredients. There are no half cups or spoons in the measurements, only whole numbers, which also makes them easy to memorize. It is one of the easiest cakes to bake and it’s perfect for beginners. This is the recipe that I used when I first taught my eldest son how to bake cakes and you can use it to teach your children too.

- Mix together the butter, sugar, and eggs in a large bowl.
- Add the vanilla extract.
- Stir in the milk, followed by the baking powder.
- Gently fold in the flour.
- Bake at 350°F/180°C for 30 minutes or until the center of the cake bounces back from a little pressure.
