I love making my own cheese sauce as I get to control the intensity of the cheese flavor because sometimes I prefer a strong flavor and sometimes I want it just mild, depending on what I intend to use it for. Once you have learned how to make your own cheese sauce, you can adjust the cheese quantities for different flavor strengths. Cheese sauce is also known as Mornay sauce.
- Melt the margarine, stir in the flour, and cook for 3 minutes.
- Add the milk and salt.
- Cook until thick.
- Add the grated cheese.
